1th & 12th August 2010

Three in a row

We were really excited when the Waikato Stud stallions continued their outstanding run of success at the 2009-10 Mercedes Thoroughbred Awards. Crack filly Katie Lee (Pins – Our Jessie Jay) was crowned the Champion Three-Year-Old and the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year.

This made it three Champion Three-Year- Old titles in succession with Alamosa (O'Reilly-Lodore Mystic) in 2007-08 and Daffodil (No Excuse Needed-Spring) 2008-09 all from the WS Stallion barn.

Another Savabeel to watch – “The Chevron”

We watched The Chevron (ex Nightstar) win impressively on debut in Melbourne during the week. He’s out of a sister to the G3 Gold Trail and Lowland Stakes winner Starcent (Centaine) who in turn left the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas runner-up Ambitious (Last Tycoon).

We have the half-brother by Fast ‘N’ Famous being broken in at Courtza Park and a very nice yearling filly by O’Reilly in the paddock.

Marks Mail
Despite the shocking weather the farm is full steam ahead with 34 foals to date. They are listed on the website and should have photos up in the next week or two so please do go online and check them out.

With all of this inclement weather , I think you’ll all agree, it has been difficult picking a winner...So after his recent “4 haul” up at Ruakaka I’m going with Peter McKay and Sam Spratt on Vincent Mangano (Pins – Rationable) Race 4 and then in Race 10 he teams up with Opie on Artesia (Pins – Vera Pro Gratis).

I will also be keeping a keen eye on Brightnight at Mooney Valley in the Group 2 and Group 1 winner Waikato in the Group 3 at Kranji on Sunday.
Happy Punting!
